Franzi Löw

1916, Vienna – 1996, Vienna

Franzi Löw, from a Jewish rabbinical family, completed her training at Ilse Arlt’s school in 1937, but was not hired by the city of Vienna as a social worker. She began working as a social worker for the Jewish Community of Vienna.

During the Nazi era, she initially organized the Kindertransports, among other things; later, at great personal risk, she worked to provide for the Jewish population and supported Jewish people living in hiding.

Franzi Löw began her career in 1945 as the chief social worker at the Vienna City Health Department, where she established services for people with physical disabilities. For her tireless dedication, she received numerous awards, including the Golden Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic of Austria.
